I'm in Santa Monica pretty frequently and am known to kick it with some recent VT alums, if you live in town let Joe and I in on some of the good spots to hit up on weekends!
I just moved to West Hollywood (which isnt far from Santa Monica) from New York. I cant decide weather to go to the Cruz Room or Big Wangs to watch the game this weekend. Were you going to watch the game anywhere?
im pretty sure that me and 2 of my friends (both hokies) are going to the Cruz Room to watch the game. You should come!
Hey Beth,
I live in WeHo now too near Melrose and La Cienega. Moved from NY but about 5 years ago. Hopefully I'll see you at one of the football watching parties! WeHo isn't that big so you may hear me cheering for the Hokies!
Hey guys,
Glad to see all of you on our site.. I'm Jim, formerly the president of the Alumni Assn out here in LA, and now I just send emails and run the website :)

The Cruz room should be fun this weekend; for a game like this, we'll get anywhere between 80-120 people out watching the games. We get all of the TV's/sound/etc.. Beth, essentially Cruz Room is our version of the Pourhouse :)

Big Wang's is less of an event, and more of a gathering of Hokies who don't care to make the trip down to Hermosa for the games. I've been there twice, once with a group of about 15, and another when it was closer to 20-30.. Peter Hudson is helping us organize the Big Wang's thing this year.

I'm bias, I'd say to come down to the Cruz Room for the bigger games, and Big Wang's when you need it to be more convenient.. OR.. If you want to get your own (more convenient) gathering together, pick a place and we'd be happy to advertise for you. The website is here to help enable us to self-organize..

If you come down, please take note of the parking notice for Cruz Room this week; Hermosa has 'Fiesta Hermosa' going on, which means parking near the pier will be impossible to come by. I've suggested a couple lots to check out in lieu of getting stuck in the parking mess.

I hope to meet all of you soon, if not this weekend.

Let's Go....
-Jim
Hey guys, I just moved to Santa Monica from Blacksburg... I'd love to hang out with some fellow Hokies! I only know like two people in all of L.A. so it would be nice to expand the circle, too.
Joe,

I just finished my master's degree at VT in May and then moved out here to work for UCLA. I technically live in West LA but I'm one mile up Wilshire from Santa Monica. I went to a bar called South (on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica) to watch the VT-Bama game, NOT a good idea, me and my boyfriend were the only Hokie fans in a room full of Bama fans. I'd go back again cuz it's nice to watch the game nearby, but I'd prefer to go back with more Hokies in tow! Anyone interested in watching games there? It's a southern-inspired bar so it's perfect!
