I know in past we did networking/fundraising events for VT scholarships for local kids, I think that might be good idea to start. As I remember few years ago we gave couple of scholarships. I think that would be very nice thing to do. Also what happen with local charity that was run by VT alumni. It was called helping hokies or hokiesthanksgiving or something like that. I cannot recall it. Anyways, those are my two sense.

Hey Jellal-
You'll be happy to know this was a discussion topic at our officers meeting last week. In the past 9 months, we have raised $750 towards such a scholarship. Our plans moving forward are to establish (or reestablish) a formal scholarship account in Blacksburg, deposit our raised funds, and continue to do so throughout the year. Our goal is to always have 'more than enough' money in this account for at least a $1000 scholarship each year. Our goal is to have our scholarship process formalized for years to come by this measure, with our first distribution to take place for a student starting at Tech in 2010.

As for the local charity; that is news to me! I'll bring this up to the officers, I think its a great idea if we can get a well organized group.

Hi Jim,

Great if you find a way to contact Catherine something she was the president about 4 years ago. She would know what I am talking about. Let me think, you can try Ed MacLaughlin or his brother.

Also, I started Los Angeles Hokies group on facebook few years ago (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?sid=b5bcc69bf83a93c5da0968639e168...)
I would like that to grow in membership. If somebody wants I can make them officers and give them rights to it. Also there is another facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?sid=b5bcc69bf83a93c5da0968639e168...)
